Our 2017 “Reasons” to Race

It’s your choice!  Choose one, choose all or choose your own. This is YOUR race for YOUR reason!

As a registrant, you can choose one of our selected charities, choose all of our selected charities or write in your own favorite charity. Money raised that day from our vendors, from sponsorship dollars and additional fundraising will be donated amongst these 5 charities!  Here are the selected charities for 2017:

Pancreatic Cancer

Here’s one of our reasons. What’s yours?
We are huge supporters of Pancreatic Cancer and will have a portion of proceeds benefit The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network! One of our Elevate team members lost her grandmother and mother (Linda Klug) within a year of each other to Pancreatic Cancer.  This is when we first had our eyes opened to the awful statistics behind this cancer and how much more funding and support it needs.  We will always fight for this cause and for fighters like Linda who have inspired our events to continue to Wage Hope!

Brain Aneurysm Awareness

Here’s our reason.  What’s yours?
Lisa Wise, was one of our Elevate team member’s mothers.  Lisa was a beautiful woman who lived her life helping others.  She volunteered at all of our charity fundraisers in the past and unexpectedly suffered an aneurysm walking out of church surrounded by her family on Christmas Day.  Last year we had our first event in her name, Lisa’s Light which raised $8,000 for FibroMuscular Dysplasia Society of America in her memory. This year we keep Lisa’s Light shining on with all of her Hartford family and supporters as a part of Race for Your Reason.  Brain Aneurysms are so unpredictable and we need so much more dedication to research and funding.

Prostate and testicular cancer

Here’s our reason.  What’s yours?
Did you know about 1 man in 7 will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime? Movember Foundation not only supports prostate cancer but also testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. Plus, this cause gives you an excuse to rock a mustache for November.

Metastatic Breast Cancer

Here’s our reason.  What’s yours?

Metastatic Breast Cancer is the spread of breast cancer to a non-adjacent part of the body through the blood or lymph system.  New tumors are formed in other parts of the body but are still the same type of cancer as the primary tumor.  Currently, 100% of people whose breast cancer has metastasized will die from it.  Unfortunately, at this time, most breast cancer foundations only use 2% of their research funds to researching metastasis because their primary focus is on prevention.  It’s a devastating diagnosis for our good friend Elise, her Auntie Lisa and those close to her.  After her diagnosis, her family realized that metastasized cancer is not talked about enough or researched enough.  Our goal as supporters of Lisa and her family, is to help others understand what it means for Auntie Lisa (Lisa Wilbrandt) and others living with metastasized cancer are going through on a daily basis.

Blood Cancers & bone marrow transplant research

Here’s our reason.  What’s yours?

Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin is Southeast Wisconsin’s only academic medical center.  The Cancer Center physicians and staff provide their patients with the most up-to-date cancer treatments, including a variety of clinical trial options.  The money raised by Raise for Your Reason will go directly to funding research for our local cancer patients.
